Baby S's Birth Day

It's no secret that birth photography is my favorite. It's such a beautiful experience and gives me a thrill every single time! The day baby S was born was no different. Her mama was strong and amazing and capturing her birth was such an honor!

When I first arrived at the hospital I met a first-time mom who had just had her epidural and a daddy who passed out while she got it! It was fun to hear the story being retold all day. He graciously accepted the teasing and I think he knows that this will be one of those stories that will be told even when he is an old, old man.

S's mama was surrounded with so much loving support. She had her mother and mother-in-law with her all day giving her foot rubs and stroking her hair in addition to her husband holding her hand. And as the day went on siblings arrived and offered sweet encouragement as well. I'm always amazed at the support that family can give on a big day like this and I know this mama was grateful for it.

Baby Shane's Birth Day

Yesterday I was privileged to photograph a home birth for the first time. And let me tell you, it was exciting! I received a message in the afternoon that early labor had started, so I headed home to make sure my bags were packed and batteries were charged. Then I started getting dinner ready and helping my daughter with her homework. But it was not much more than an hour later that I got another message telling me that mom was dilated to 9 centimeters. Talk about rushing! I literally ran out the door shouting goodbye to my family and then proceeded to sit in rush hour traffic for half an hour. I was on the verge of panicking! Once I passed a minor car wreck that had been causing a terrible traffic jam I punched the gas and prayed that God would let me make it there before the baby was born!

When I arrived at the house, I grabbed my camera and my key and nothing else and bolted for the front door. I flew inside to find that I had not missed the big moment! After three or four minutes of snapping away, baby Shane made his grand entrance into the world and I was there to capture those precious first moments he spent snuggling on his mother.

His mama was a rock star! The birth was fast and she was alone until about fifteen minutes before baby Shane was born but she never panicked. She was strong and calm and simply amazing! The baby was perfect and pink and so sweet and calm. I am so thankful that I was able to preserve these priceless memories for such a sweet family!

Baby Tenley - Birth Story

What a privilege it was to capture the entrance of baby Tenley into this world! I had some notice the evening before that her mother was in labor and was able to get some sleep before I got the call at 4:30 in the morning that it was time to head to the hospital. Her mama was a rock star, giving birth with no epidural, and her daddy was a pro, supporting mama the whole time. Tenley was born at dawn and with the most beautiful light pouring from the east window, I captured some of the most beautiful first moments these parents spent with their new baby girl. I was so honored to be allowed to preserve these moments for this dear family!
